The client, a county health department, contracted for support in designing curricula and eLearning courses for university students and healthcare workers that promoted holistic well-being, empathy, and the overall prevention of infectious diseases. For university students, the client emphasized the need to connect mental and physical well-being in a manner relevant to the students.
My role:
Conduct research into physical and mental health statistics for American university students to inform curriculum development for an eLearning course and residence hall toolkit.
Provide subject matter expertise in social and emotional well-being themes and strategies for university students.
Design eLearning courses on physical and mental well-being for university students and public health workers in Articulate Rise. Developed the content and learning experience based on Adult Learning Theory.
I collaborated with a small sub-team within a larger project, leveraging our collective subject matter and audience expertise. We adopted the ADDIE model for its systematic, learner-centered framework, which aligned with the client's goal of enhancing county residents’ physical and mental well-being to prevent infectious disease spread.
This structured approach enabled me to analyze support gaps, define clear learning objectives, and convert client feedback into research-driven content, detailed storyboards, and visual guidelines that laid the foundation for our eLearning courses and assessment toolkits.
Desk research revealed key gaps in mental health support among county residents, affecting their physical health, and identified that for university students, stressors such as academic pressure and social expectations negatively impact well-being and academic performance. This analysis was presented to the client, who then clarified priority areas for development within the identified gaps and challenges.
After setting priorities with the client, my team and I defined learning objectives for our primary target audience—university students. With positive client feedback, we transformed outlines into research-driven content, created visual guidelines for videos, graphics, and games, and developed detailed storyboards for eLearning course development. We also designed learner assessment toolkits in collaboration with an evaluation expert to ensure scalability and reproducibility. Additionally, we partnered with a communications firm to produce branded multimedia based on our storyboards and guidelines. Once the multimedia assets were finalized, I, along with a team of instructional designers, built the eLearning courses in Articulate Rise, ensuring visual cohesion with the brand, interactivity, and ample opportunities for learners to apply their knowledge through work-based activities and examples.
The curricula are currently being pepared for delivery to learners, with public release planned for Summer 2025.
Once released, the curricula will come with detailed evaluation guidelines and adaptable toolkits for county employers and universities. These resources are designed to assess learning outcomes against the established objectives.
